Introduction to gas discharge lamps

A gas discharge lamp is a lamp that emits light by a gas, a metal vapor, or a mixture of several gases and metal vapor. An electric light source that converts electrical energy into light by gas discharge. There are many types of gas discharges, and glow discharge and arc discharge (see arc discharge) are used more. Glow discharges are commonly used for neon lights and indicator lights. Arc discharge can have a strong light output, and the illumination source uses arc discharge. Fluorescent lamps, high-pressure mercury lamps, sodium lamps and metal halide lamps are the most widely used gas discharge lamps for lighting.
