Recently, SolarWorld, a leading German solar energy company, has revealed plans to introduce two innovative solar-powered aircrafts in collaboration with its domestic design partner, PC-Aero. These new models will make their debut at the AERO Global Show for General Aviation, which opens on April 24 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Building upon the success of the SolarWorld eOne and Elektra One Solar aircrafts, the latest versions have undergone significant performance enhancements. The redesigned Elektra One Solar features a fuselage made from carbon composite materials, allowing for improved structural strength and aerodynamic efficiency. It also incorporates 6 square meters of solar cells on its wings—more than the previous model—which can generate over 1 kW of power during flight. In addition, the aircraft is equipped with a lithium battery that provides an extra 1.5 kW of energy, enabling it to fly for more than 8 hours at a top speed of 100 km/h without relying on the battery. This means a potential range of around 1,000 kilometers.
The new SolarWorld eOne also leverages advanced solar energy collection technology. Designed as a single-seat aircraft, its lightweight construction allows it to carry a powerful 16 kW engine. Despite this, the updated version only requires 2.5 kW of electricity to stay airborne, showcasing remarkable energy efficiency. Both aircraft models are built using ultra-lightweight carbon composites, highlighting SolarWorld’s commitment to sustainable aviation solutions.
