Based in Russia, Valen-Si-A has introduced a groundbreaking approach to solar polysilicon production known as the UM-technology. This innovative method is set to revolutionize the way polysilicon is manufactured, offering potential improvements in efficiency and quality.
The new process utilizes filaments to create a variety of crystal structures during the gas-phase deposition of intermediate silicon. These filaments can be produced at an impressive rate of 40 to 45 millimeters per minute, significantly lowering the amount of polysilicon required—only 1.2 kilograms per kilogram of filaments. This represents a major step forward in resource optimization for the industry.
In the production setup, a polysilicon rod with a diameter ranging from 50 to 80 millimeters is mounted on a wire rope and then transported into an inductor. There, it is heated to its melting point, after which the molten silicon is transferred to a receiving chamber where crystallization takes place. However, traditional methods often face challenges such as metal contamination during this process.
According to Valen-Si-A, their UM-technology addresses these issues effectively. By implementing advanced shielding and purification techniques, the system minimizes the risk of metal contamination, resulting in higher purity polysilicon. This not only enhances the quality of the final product but also improves the overall reliability and performance of solar panels made from this material.
