National Instruments unveils new high-performance servo drive and motor

In October 2010, National Instruments introduced a new AKD servo drive and AKM servo motor. Engineers and scientists can easily create scalable distributed motion control systems. The new product simplifies the installation and configuration process and quickly deploys custom motion applications to NI real-time controllers that support NI EtherCAT technology, including NI CompactRIO, PXI real-time controllers, and NI industrial controllers. In addition, National Instruments releases the NI LabVIEW 2010 NI SoftMotion module. This module provides support for NI EtherCAT drivers that simplify the development of motion applications. The new AKM brushless servo motor offers excellent dynamic performance in four different frame sizes and features high torque density and high speed range. The motor uses a low inertia rotor, low occlusion and low harmonic distortion magnetic element design. In addition, CONTROL ENGINEERING China, the motor can also be combined with the NI servo drive, plug-and-play configuration through integrated smart feedback device (SFD) technology and simplified connection steps. The new AKD servo drive simplifies setup and configuration with EtherCAT technology and integration with the LabVIEW project. The LabVIEW project is one of the features of LabVIEW software that enables engineers to combine LabVIEW with third-party files to create and manage executables and to deploy or download files to hardware targets. The new drive offers cutting-edge technology and cutting-edge performance with torque circuit updates of up to 0.67 μs and speed and position loops of 62.5 μs and 125 μs, respectively. The AKD servo drive utilizes graphical system design to provide solutions for a wide range of applications, including basic torque and speed applications, indexing applications and multi-axis programmable motion applications. The new motors and drivers provide seamless integration with LabVIEW graphical programming, all available from CONTROL ENGINEERING China, a LabVIEW NI SoftMotion module, for graphical development of custom motion applications. With this module, engineers and scientists can use the LabVIEW project to configure axis parameters, test configurations, tune motors, and quickly develop custom motion applications. The new NI SoftMotion module updates the interactive configuration and features a high level of APIs for enhanced ease-of-use and sports applications on Windows-based systems. Additionally, the new module makes it easy to interface with new drives and motors, including third-party drives and motors that are hardware-connected via the NIC family of drive interfaces.
