Japan's NSK bearings are carefully packaged to ensure protection during storage and transportation. The packaging is typically divided into **inner** and **outer** packaging, each serving a specific purpose to maintain the quality of the bearings.
### Inner Packaging Classification Based on Anti-Rust Duration
The inner packaging is categorized based on the **anti-rust period**, which determines how long the bearing can be stored without corrosion.
1. **Short Anti-Rust Packaging (3–6 months)**
- Ideal for large-volume deliveries to the same customer.
- Suitable when bearings will be used shortly after delivery.
- Simple and cost-effective packaging method.
2. **Standard Anti-Rust Packaging (1 year)**
- Designed for general use bearings that are not stored for extended periods.
- Provides sufficient protection for most standard applications.
3. **Long Anti-Rust Packaging (2 years)**
- Used for special or precision bearings that require longer protection.
- Ensures high-quality preservation for critical components.
### Common Materials Used in Inner Packaging
- Polyethylene plastic tubes or boxes
- Kraft paper and polyethylene composite paper
- Cartons, polyethylene or plastic films
- Nylon or plastic fastening tapes
- Waterproof high-strength plastic tape
- Linen bags
All materials must meet corrosion resistance standards to protect the bearings effectively.
### Guidelines for Inner Packaging Methods
#### 1. Miniature Bearings
- Each 10–15 sets are placed in a plastic cylinder.
- 5–10 cylinders are packed into a carton or bag.
#### 2. Medium and Small Bearings
- Multiple sets are wrapped in polyethylene film or kraft paper.
- Alternatively, they can be placed in a plastic cylinder or individual polyethylene bags.
- Sealed bags are then placed into a carton for safe transport.
#### 3. Large Bearings
- Single bearings are wrapped in polyethylene film or composite paper, then placed into a carton.
- Some may be placed in a special plastic box or a three-layer package:
- Inner layer: Polyethylene film or composite tape
- Middle layer: Fastening tape
- Outer layer: Waterproof and reinforced plastic tape
#### 4. Extra Large Bearings
- Follow the same three-layer method as large bearings.
- For extra-large sizes, a four-layer wrapping may be used, with an additional linen tape layer on the outside.
### Special Cases
- **Separable Tapered Roller Bearings (Outer Diameter ≥150mm):**
- The polyethylene film should be placed between the inner and outer components before packaging.
- Alternatively, the components can be separated and packaged individually.
- **Exchangeable Cylindrical Roller Bearings (Outer Diameter ≥150mm):**
- These can be easily separated and packaged by their internal components.
Proper packaging is essential to maintain the performance and longevity of NSK bearings. Following these guidelines ensures that bearings remain in optimal condition during storage and shipping.
