The seedling stage of celery typically occurs during the hot and rainy season, which can be challenging for farmers if not properly managed. Poor care during this time can lead to weak seedlings or even death due to disease. Last summer, many celery seedlings were lost due to heavy rains and subsequent rot. So, what are the key points to consider when managing celery seedlings? Recently, a reporter visited Guihe Village in Datian Town, Shouguang City, to find out how local farmers are handling their celery seedlings.
First, it's important to control the temperature. Celery thrives in cooler conditions, with an ideal germination temperature between 15°C and 20°C. The temperature in the seedbed should not exceed 25°C. However, during summer, temperatures often rise above 30°C, which is not favorable for celery growth. To counter this, farmers should use shading nets and water spraying to keep the seedbed cool and prevent heat stress.
Second, proper thinning of seedlings is essential. Once the celery has developed true leaves, farmers should remove overcrowded, diseased, or weak seedlings. The spacing between plants should be adjusted to about 2–3 cm to allow better air circulation and reduce competition for nutrients. At the same time, weeds should be removed from the field to improve the growing environment and promote healthy seedling development.
Third, drainage is crucial. Summer brings heavy rain, and poor drainage can lead to waterlogging, which is harmful to celery roots. Farmers should create drainage ditches around the seedbeds to ensure that excess water can drain quickly after rainfall, preventing root damage and reducing the risk of diseases like soft rot.
Fourth, early prevention of pests and diseases is vital. High humidity and warm temperatures in summer create the perfect environment for various diseases, such as damping-off and soft rot. Soft rot, caused by bacteria, leads to rotten and smelly seedlings. If left unchecked, these diseases can spread rapidly. Farmers should monitor the seedlings closely and apply protective sprays at the first sign of infection. Common treatments include 70% agricultural streptomycin diluted 3000 times, 3% zhongshengmycin at 1000 times, and 33% potassium oxonate at 800 times, among others.
By following these management practices, farmers can significantly improve the survival rate and quality of their celery seedlings. With careful attention to temperature, spacing, drainage, and disease control, even in challenging weather conditions, they can still achieve good results and prepare for a successful harvest later in the season.
Buffer ring is a common Machine element, which is used to reduce the vibration and noise generated during the operation of the machine. Buffer rings are mainly divided into two types: rubber buffer rings and spring buffer rings. Rubber buffer rings are suitable for low-frequency vibration and impact, while spring buffer rings are suitable for high-frequency vibration and impact. Buffer ring is an important Machine element, which is widely used in automobile, machinery, electronics and other fields.
