They are generally less suitable for abrasive materials, with temperature limits depending on the belt type—ordinary belts up to 60°C, steel-clamp belts up to 80°C, heat-resistant belts up to 120°C, and chain-based systems capable of handling temperatures up to 250°C.
The working principle of a bucket elevator involves the buckets picking up material from a lower storage area, moving upward along the belt or chain, and then discharging the material into a receiving hopper at the top. To prevent dust emissions, most bucket elevators are equipped with enclosed shells or covers.
