What is a booster pump? A booster pump, as the name suggests, is a device designed to increase water pressure. It is commonly used in applications such as water heaters, high-rise buildings with low water pressure, saunas, bathrooms, and solar water heating systems that require automatic pressurization. The primary function of a booster pump is to ensure consistent and sufficient water pressure for daily use.
When installing a booster pump, it must be mounted either horizontally or vertically, depending on the manufacturer's instructions. Always make sure the direction of water flow matches the arrow marked on the pump body. For optimal performance, install the pump as close as possible to the lowest water level. To facilitate maintenance and operation, it’s recommended to install a valve on the inlet line. If the suction level is below the impeller or near the pump shaft, a check valve should be installed. Additionally, the outlet should be connected to a tee for proper water distribution.
Before initial use, fill the pump with water and secure the plug properly. Ensure all pipeline connections are tight, especially the inlet pipe, as any leakage can reduce pumping efficiency or prevent water from being drawn. Never run the pump without water inside, as this can damage internal seals. The motor is equipped with a safety protector that automatically shuts off the power if the temperature rises above a safe limit. Once cooled, the motor will restart automatically.
The booster pump uses a capacitor-start motor. The rotation direction has been set at the factory, but if you need to replace the capacitor or rewire the motor, always follow the arrow mark on the pump body. For safety, always use a three-pin grounded socket when connecting the pump. If you notice any leaks, shut down the pump immediately to avoid internal damage. If the leak is related to the motor, replace the mechanical seal.
Check if the power supply is working and confirm that the voltage matches the pump’s operating voltage. If everything seems normal, remove the pump, open the cover, clear any foreign objects inside, and reinstall the cover securely. If the pump fails to draw water, check its installation on the water pipe. If the water level is below the impeller plane (for horizontal installation) or the centerline (for vertical installation), turn off the power immediately. Once the water level rises above these points, you can safely turn the pump back on to avoid damaging internal components.
When using the pump for well water, check for leaks in the intake pipe. If the pump chamber lacks water, fill it before starting. If the suction lift is too high, adjust it accordingly. Also, verify that the inlet and outlet pipe diameters are not too small or blocked. After prolonged use, the pump may experience automatic failure due to sediment buildup in the pipes. In such cases, turn off the power, remove the switch, unscrew the top cover, clean the plastic sheet, and reset it according to the original configuration. Once everything is cleaned and adjusted, the pump should function normally again.
