Technical optimization of analytical spring on vibrating machinery

An air spring has been designed and developed in-house to replace imported components in test equipment. The electric table's mechanical structure (as shown) mainly consists of a moving coil, a guide assembly, a magnetic circuit assembly, and a bracket. The moving coil serves as the vibration source. It is connected to other system parts through the guide assembly, which requires a spring for stability. The main body of the electric table is mounted on the working platform via the bracket, so a spring is also placed between the main body and the bracket to reduce vibrations and improve isolation. One important issue to consider is that when the turntable clamp secures the pin, the roller mechanism movement is controlled. However, once the clamp is loosened, there is no limiting mechanism in the circumferential direction, leading to uncontrolled movement. To address this, a turntable bolt was designed to secure the positioning shaft on the right side of the foaming fixture. This bolt mechanism ensures the drum is locked during the idle phase of the turntable clamp. Due to the high force applied to the pin shaft, screw fixation can easily loosen or shift. Therefore, the right turntable was reinforced with 8 evenly spaced holes around the circumference. The pin is inserted into these holes, and one end of the pin is fitted with two wear-resistant pads that work with the clamp block. By adjusting the thickness of the pads, the pin and clamp block achieve a precise fit, eliminating drum tilting during rotation. The other end of the pin includes an anti-rotation pin to prevent unintended rotation, ensuring accurate clamping every time. Thanks to the successful overall design, the equipment was smoothly commissioned and has been operating reliably for over two years, delivering significant economic benefits. The four main components of the air spring designed by the author, Junchuan, are adapted based on actual requirements. Some parts may become integrated into the equipment, while others function as air springs depending on the structure. The pistons and anisotropic sections in the air spring are used by the electric stage as part of the moving coil’s guiding mechanism. This design optimizes space usage, reduces the number of parts, lowers manufacturing costs, and shortens production cycles, significantly enhancing market competitiveness. By utilizing existing space and the semi-closed lower half of the electric frame, the air chamber of the air spring is integrated with the frame, resulting in a more compact design. The symmetrically distributed air spring pistons provide anisotropic vertical performance. In the air spring structure, the original guiding parts can be omitted. Air springs have been successfully implemented in electric platforms of various specifications, achieving the expected results. Many technical parameters have exceeded those of similar imported products. The typical structure of an air spring is illustrated. When compressed or stretched, the volume inside the air chamber changes, affecting the internal gas pressure. If the chamber volume is too small, the air spring deforms; if the deformation is excessive, it may rupture or fail under load. Therefore, in practical applications, the external air chamber volume must be appropriately matched to the usage conditions. The air spring is used for vibration isolation and support of the electric table. It offers excellent performance, such as providing a very low resonance frequency—often below 3 Hz, and even reaching 1 Hz with proper design. Since the air spring achieves vibration isolation through the pressure change of compressed air in the rubber airbag, it performs exceptionally well in isolating high-frequency vibrations. Although conventional air springs have many performance advantages, their use in vibration equipment is limited due to complex manufacturing processes and high costs. For example, in an electric station, five pairs of air springs are typically required, significantly increasing the manufacturing cost of the electric table. The author studied the working principle of the air spring and combined practical experience to design and develop an air spring suitable for the actual production of the electric bench.

Hitachi Launches New TX Series Escalator for

India, Asia and the Middle East

Hitachi Escalator Parts

Tokyo, August 21, 2017 --- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, [Hitachi") and Hitachi Building Systems Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of the new TX Series escalator for India, Asia and the Middle East. The escalator has already been released in China*1, and will be released in stages across the remainder regions, commencing August 21, 2017.

In July 2016, Hitachi integrated its escalator businesses of Japan and China, consolidating its resources and enhancing its business operations in both countries, centered around its key business location in Guangzhou, China. The new TX Series escalator launched by Hitachi is a model that meets multiple standards in China, India, Asia and the Middle East. The model follows the same concept for the machine room-less elevator for Asia and the Middle East which was launched in September 2016. In addition to conforming to Chinese safety and quality standards for escalator equipment, the TX Series will be manufactured in accordance with Hitachi's own strict standards of safety and quality, adhering to safety standards in all other regions. It also adopts a functional design based on the concept of an escalator that fits closely with the unconscious actions of users, in the pursuit of their ease and comfort.

The TX Series offers flexibility with a selection of various product specifications, as well as its excellent design and safety features, designed to cater to a diverse range of customer needs. It also saves space required for the installation, covering a smaller area in comparison with existing products*2.

Hitachi will begin sales of the TX Series in Thailand, followed by launches in the Philippines, Malaysia and various other regions, and aims to receive orders of 10,000 units in 2018 in China, India, Asia and the Middle East.

Features of the TX Series

  1. Safety
The TX Series offers various new safety features designed with optimal user safety in mind. The side portions of the steps are 8 mm higher than the central portion to prevent accidents in which a users' shoe can become caught between the step and the skirt (side wall) of the escalator. The new TX series has also been fitted with brushes located at foot level on the left and right skirts to let users know if their foot comes into contact with the side walls. A special finish has also been adopted for the landing plates at the entry and exit points of the escalator to prevent users from slipping when getting on and off the escalator.
  2. Design
The TX Series adopts a simple and functional design that offers the smoothness, safety and comfort that users unconsciously expect to experience when riding an escalator. For example, by minimizing the size of the metal frame supporting the escalator's balustrades, the TX Series' design maximizes the size of the glass surfaces, and achieves greater simplicity at the entrance and exit points (landings) by reducing the number of recesses and protrusions around the hand rail. Additionally, by expanding the installation space of the light fixture, the TX Series also enables enhanced lighting options for illuminating the entire surroundings of the balustrades.
  3. Space saving
By shortening the span dimensions*3 by 150 mm, the TX Series has made it possible to install escalators in more confined spaces where installation presents difficulties with conventional product designs.

*1 In China, Hitachi started selling the TX Series escalator in June, 2017.

*2 The made-in-China escalator, [SX series," which is previous model of [TX series."

*3 The span between the beam on upper floor and that on the lower floor of the escalator when the escalator is installed.
