Japanese companies promote carbon fiber reinforced sheet molding plastics business

According to Japanese media reports, Asahi Organics Industries plans to develop a carbon fiber reinforced sheet molding compound (SMC) business in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). It is reported that Asahi Organics Industry is discussing with a number of large-scale automobile manufacturers to use it as a component for absorbing radio waves. Because this product makes full use of the conductive properties of carbon fiber, it can also act as an electromagnetic wave shielding material and automotive structural material. In addition, the product is easier to form than existing shielding materials, and it is expected to reduce the cost of automakers.
